Trout fishing is thought to be close to the most popular types of fishing. This is mainly because they are found almost everywhere! There are however, different types of trout, each found in different geographic locations and habitats.

For example, Brook Trout are found in Labrador all the way west to Saskatchewan; while, in contrast, the fish known as the Rainbow Trout's habitat is found in an area of the Pacific, from California to Alaska.

Brown trout have recently begun to move into habitats that they are not native too. They have actually moved into most areas of the USA. The only states not yet spawning trout are Florida, Kentucky, Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Texas, and Oklahoma. Brown trout are also found in a wide range of areas in Canada. So, as you can see, finding the fish is not a problem when it comes to trout fishing.

Regardless of the abundance of the fish, you will still need a plan - these are very crafty fish! Here are a few things to consider when fishing for trout.

1. Do not grease your leader. When it is greased and floats it could possibly cast shadows over the fish that would scare away them away. Do not worry, it will not sink far enough to cause any real problems.

2. Trout should be fished for in both the current, and pools. While this can cause the fly to sink or drag, it will be well worth your efforts of using this trick.

3. Do not float straight up stream. You should make your cast across the river so that the fly will only float over your prey.

4. Always fish the lower pools first, no matter where the trout seem to be. Make you first cast your best one. Trout that are eating will go for the first lure they see as long as it is right over their own area.

5. There is no single most effective way to fish for trout. They are picky fish and change their minds often, so you might need to use a different type of fly each time you go fishing. You never know what the trout will be in the mood for.

If you try to use these tips your fishing experience will hopefully be both rewarding and fun.
