If you are so inclined you can become quite detailed about the various rules concerning the best times for fishing, but who the heck wants to do that?

In this article I will provide you with 3 tips that will help you be on the water at the best times, because after all if you can be on the water at the best times, why wouldn't you? The best time for fishing is when the fish are the most active, because when the fish are "active" they are feeding, and when fish are feeding they are much more apt to bite whatever you're offering.

Keep these 3 tips in mind and you'll be much successful angler, because you'll be on the water when the fish are more active.

The Barometer - Fish are active or not depending on whether the barometric pressure is rising or falling. You see, fish can detect pressure changes in the atmosphere through their lateral lines, and tend to feed accordingly. As a general rule, when the barometer is low the fishing isn't very good. On the other hand when the barometer has been high and is now falling, fishing is very good.
The Phases Of The Moon - Fish are active or not depending on what phase the moon is in. The best time to be fishing has a ton to do with what phase the moon is in. There are four basic phases of the moon every month, the new moon, the full moon, and the waxing and waning crescents. Depending on which phase of the moon you are fishing during, the fish will be either more or less active. The best time to be fishing has a ton to due with what phase the moon happens to be in at night. For example, a full moon is better for fishing than a waxing crescent.
The Weather - Fish can be more or less active depending on what the weather is doing. This ties in closely with the barometer, but is worth mentioning as well. There are three main types of frontal systems that we as anglers should concern ourselves with; cold, warm, and stationary fronts. A passing cold front is said to effect fishing in a negative way. On the other hand a passing warm front is said to have a positive effect on fishing.

In a perfect world we want to pay attention to the 3 factors listed above and be on the water when all 3 are in our favor. When this happens you'll know it because you'll have an epic day of fishing. By learning the simple rule pertaining to the 3 factors in this article, you'll always know the best time to be fishing.
