Halibut - Halibut are mainly found in deep waters and can weigh up t0 45kg or 100lb.

Steelheads - Steelhead trout lives in fresh water and in the ocean. They upriver for spawning then return into the open waters later.

Rainbow Trout - Rainbow trout are found in rivers and out in the ocean. Then can live up to 8 years.

Dolly Varden - Dolly Varden live in both the river and ocean. They can live for longer than 8 years.

Northern Pike - These are quite long and very aggressive. They make the most fearsome predators in Alaskan waters and tend to have an effect on the trout population. They are normally sought after as trophies.

Salmon sharks - These are among salmon's leading predators, but don't top the food chain when fishing boats are present.

Rockfish -There are more than 30 species of rockfish in Alaska's rivers and coastal waters. Some species can be found as far as the Bering Sea.

Lingcod - These are regarded as one of the ugliest fish in Alaska, but they also taste good. They are normally found 30-300.ft deep and in some cases 3,000ft.

Burbot - Having got a French name meaning "wallow in mud," the burbot is among the ugliest fish, but also tasty.

Whitefish - These are among the most common fish species north of Alaska. There are 8 species of the whitefish including the sheerfish.

Sheerfish - This is the most abundant fish in the Yukon and Kuskokwim river drainages. Its also widely popular in the Kobuk and Selawik drainages. Also referred to as the "arctic tarpon" the sheerfish is only found North America and parts of Asia.

Lake trout - Lake trout are found in different varieties, and are normally found in Alaska's cold rivers and lakes.

Arctic grayling - With a sail-like fin and spots all-over, the arctic can be instantly recognized. It mainly lives in rivers, streams and lakes in Alaska. Easy, light and fun to catch, the grayling is tasty.

Arctic char - Of the char species, the arctic char is most northerly distributed fish, and its closely related to its cousin, the Dolly Varden.

Brook trout - Brook trout are among the newest members in Alaska's rivers and open waters. They are mainly found throughout Southeast Alaska.

Cutthroat trout - Cutthroat trout is an aggressive species of trout. The name defines it right because of the red slash mark beneath the jaw.

Chum salmon - Also referred to as "dog," chum salmon are quite colourful and are mostly found in rivers and fresh water. They are fearsome largely due to their large teeth and hooked snout.

Salmon - There are many species of salmon fish in Alaska's rivers and open waters and these include; Sockeye, Silver, Pink, Chum and King. In summer Salmon tend to for spawning upriver. A salmon is your most likely species to catch when fishing Alaska rivers.

Alaska's rivers are rich in different types of fish and are among the most populated rivers across the US.
