Many people enjoy using the unique bait known as Powerbait when fishing and as I am one of these people and have been for many years, I am going to use this article to reveal some tips to help you catch more fish when you are fishing with powerbait. When most anglers think of fishing with powerbait, they automatically think of trout fishing and those little jars or extruded bait that are so popular, but the truth is that this unique fishing bait extends far beyond fishing for trout and those little jars of bait.
The truth of the matter is that Powerbait comes in many shapes and sizes up to and including; fry, minnows, split tail jigs, leeches, worms, nymphs, and even egg clusters that are effective for most any species of fish that swims in freshwater. The key to this unique style of fishing bait are the fish attracting scents that the baits are impregnated with during the manufacturing process. With that being said, let's get down to business, what do you say?
  1. Think Outside The Box - When fishing with Powerbait don't be afraid to think "outside the box" a little bit. What species of fish are you fishing for? What kind of bait is prevalent in the water that you are fishing? Well, there is probably a Powerbait product that matches this creature, so you should give that a try. Chances are it will perform as good or better than the live version of that bait, whether you are talking about worms, minnows, salmon eggs, crayfish, etc.

  2. Dough Bait and Human Scents - When fishing with Powerbait for trout and using the dough bait that comes in jars, do your best to keep human scents off of the bait itself. A bait press or scoop is a great way to accomplish this task and will also help to keep you fingers and clothes from getting bait all over them.

  3. Keep You Hooks Small - When using any style or Powerbait do your best to keep your fishing hooks as small as possible, so that the fish that you are attempting to catch don't detect the hook. In the case of plain single shanked hooks, gang hooks, or salmon egg hooks, this means sized 8, 10, or 12. In the case of treble hooks this means using size 10, or 18.
Keep these simple tips in mind the next time that you are fishing with Powerbait and you will start to catch more fish. Why am I so sure of this? Because they have been working for me for many years and I know they will do the same for you.
